Russell Bartholomew
MSc, MMus, PGDipMus, BMus (hons) – cellist, founder and Director of Select Strings
Russell started playing the ‘cello when he was 8 years old and after gaining one of the highest marks in Britain for his grade 8 exam he went on to study at Birmingham Conservatoire in 1995. He graduated with a Bachelors degree in 2000 and went on to post-graduate study at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama where he completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in music performance and a Masters degree in music performance. Russell was a permanent member of the orchestra of Scottish Ballet for 3 years before going on to full-time teaching in Fife schools in 2005. Since then he has taught ‘cello, double bass and electric bass guitar and now teaches one day per week whilst dedicating the rest of his time to running Select Strings and spending time with his son.
